This and That~
It seemed as I was driving to Moundridge the other morning that summer was leaving and fall was just around the corner ~ there was something in the air that morning – maybe it was the sun rising in the mist, the corn that wasn’t quite so green or the sight of some mums already breaking into bloom – that all said “Fall is coming!” A few happenings here at the Manor:
- Last Friday, August 16, we had an impromptu gathering on the carport to award the prizes for our Extreme Nest Makeover Contest. Living Designs, the bird aviary company that provides us with birds for the aviary, etc. sponsors a bird nest decorating contest every year – so we decided to have our own contest. I ordered the nesting boxes from the company (they are cardboard boxes with an opening) and we worked at painting and decorating the nests. They turned out beautiful – each one was unique and displayed together in the Activity Room – so colorful! Residents and staff voted on the ‘Best Nest’ and we then awarded the prizes to the top three votes. First prize was Jennie Koehn, second prize was Elizabeth Wenger and tied for third prize was Roberda Koehn and Inez Nichols. They were given small prizes and everybody was a winner with root beer floats enjoyed by all!
- Our annual Watermelon Feed was on Tuesday, August 22, in the afternoon. Once again, we gathered on the carport to enjoy all-you-can-eat watermelon!! The watermelon came from the Moundridge Food Market but was grown by employee Connie Stika’s brother-in-law Ron Jirak from Tampa, KS. I heard lots of comments about how good the watermelon tasted!
- We are already making preparation for our Annual Resident-Family picnic coming up on Friday, September 6 so we hope to see many of you here that day!! If you have not turned in your RSVP, please do so very soon ~ or Rosa and Angela may be giving you a call!!
- And the last bit of news – I or we, whatever you want to say, have a dog, Boomer, a miniature grey poodle, that has been coming to work with me the last several weeks!!!! Maybe you remember the post about our Dog Days activity back in July – well, Boomer was one of the dogs brought by the shelter from Wichita. He seemed to be the kind of dog that would be appropriate for a therapy dog here at the Manor so I applied to adopt him. He arrived at my house on Monday, August 5 – so that’s when his birthday is – he was 5 years old! He loves to sit on the residents laps AND also wants to know where I am! He is slowly getting acquainted with the facility, residents and staff. Stop by the Activity Office sometime to say “Hi!” He may or may not be here!!
